Tribal Politics
Already during colonization casteless and indiginous people were being listed as "Scheduled Castes and Tribes". Today in India there are subventions as well as educational quotas and parliament seats for these "Scheduled Castes and Tribes". However the Indian government categorises the Narikurava as so-called "Other Backward Classes".
For several decades the Narikurava have been fighting to be added to the list of the "Scheduled Castes and Tribes" in order to profit from these governmental programs as well - though so far without success.
The government itself is very careful about adding further groups to the "scheduled tribes and castes". The obvious reason for that is that it would induce higher governmental expenses.
